Institutions and Classification

Institutions

After researching different distribution companies and different crime drama films, we finally decided that the company that will distribute our film is Aura Films. there were many different issues we had faced figuring out what distribution company to choose as there were quite a few that distributed only crime films. We tried to cut it down a bit more by thinking about how crime drama films are made e.g. murdering, swearing, jealousy etc. This made it easier for us to decide on the distribution company as the topics broke it down for us. This distribution company fits in well with what we are doing as our film is based on crime, jealousy and killing. In addition to this, we also looked at the different types of films Aura films made and tried to match them with our story. For example, the setting of our film is based in Outdoors which also matched the setting of the films made by Aura Films. Aura Films is an independent company that distributes it's films. This was the major reason we decided to use Aura Films for our distribution company,as a group we felt that Universal, Warner Bros will not be suitable for our film as they are well known distribution companies that produce and distribute high budget and our film is mainly a low budget film.

Classification

From the BBFC’s website we will decide how our film classification to be. The classification are there in order to protect children from unsuitable and harmful scene in the films; That is why there are 7 different rankings that help the consumers see which audience can watch the film and what substance do the film contain. E.G. 12 rank tells the consumer that there will be some kind of romance and kissing, however, 12A tells the consumers that under 12 can go watch a 12 rated film but with an adult for protection, as all 12 rated films are different. The ratings are done by someone in the BBFC that are watching all the films distributed, all the way through; and later awards a age rating

  • stands for Universal (four years and over)
  • PG stands for Parental Guidance (aged eight or/and older)
  •  12 is when little rang of bad language or sexcual scenes are show (childrenaged under 12)
  • 12A requires an adult to accompany any child under 12
  • 15 contains strong violence, strong language, sexual activity, drug taking, ect. (No-oneunder 15)
  • 18 are for adults ( no one under 18 can watch it) contains strong violence, language, sexual activity, horror, blood and gore, etc.
  • 18R To be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed sexshops, and to adults only.To identify the issues and what rating they should give, they look at things such asdiscrimination, drugs, horror, dangerous and easily imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex,

and violence and also when taking decisions. It is important that the BBFC’s classification standards are
in line with the public expectation and that its decisions take account of what the public think is acceptable at each age category; that why every 4-5 years, the BBFC check and changes the guidelines and the rating which is from U to R18; The BBFC also set out laws and principles to insure that all audience/ consumers are happy with the ratings of the films.

Risk Assessment

Genre research

Genre research update

the film genre me and my group have chosen is crime drama. the reason behind this is that most of the crime mostly take place when the victim is alone or while it is dark, and due to this it is easier for us to shoot as it gets dark easily. another reason i have we decided to choose this as we wanted to keep it different from out classmates as well most people had voted for the crime drama. The main reason behind this drama was that it builds lots of tension n the opening of the film sequence so this will keep our audience engaged as well as will get to know our group editing skills with the fast-pace editing, and selecting the right actors as well as using the suitable lighting.

The conventions that i have identified are that there is a

key text genres infulenced our initial ideas by showing the character doing their work and also of a sudden some incident takes place, this will make the audience wonder what happened and also make them want to watch more to find out what has happened to the character.

in our opening we will use the theme of mtystery revenge death and crime with very low dim lighting to create
