The Genre we have decided to is crime. There are so many directors that have done crime movies but one specific director I have decided to look at is Francis Ford Coppola. He was born in 1939 in Detroit, Michigan, however, he grew up in New York in an Italian-American family. Coppola then graduated with a degree in drama from 'Hofstra University' .
He was training as an assistant with film maker 'Roger Corman' Working in areas of sound, producing and eventually directing. His first feature film was 'Dementia 13' in 1963. Coppola was also involved in a variety of script collaborations and screenplays like 'Patton' (1970), the film which he won a Best Original Screenplay Academy Award. In 1966, Coppola's second film brought him acknowledgement and a Master of Fine Arts degree. Coppola and George Lucas established American Zoetrope, an independent film company based in San Francisco in 1969. The company's first project was in 1971 and was named 'THX 1138'. It was produced by Coppola and directed by Lucas. Coppola also produced the film 'American Graffiti' in 1973 and it was directed by Lucas. The movie was awarded five Academy Award nominations, including one for best picture.
Coppola's film 'The Godfather (1972) became one of thee highest-grossing movies in history and it also brought him an Oscar for writing the screenplay with Mario Puzo. The film was also a Best picture Academy award-winner. Coppola also got nominated for the Oscar award for the Best Director. Coppola also wrote 'The Great Gatsby' (1974) and 'The conversation' (1794). 'The conversation was honoured with the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival and it also brought Coppola a Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay Oscar nominations.'The Godfather: Part II' (1974) was also a success like 'The Godfather' (1972).
